Since I was very young, my parents had always told me that education is important. My mom even said that this is the only "inheritance" my parents can give. For it has been a value that has been planted in me for a long time, I still do believe that. But I also have to say that as I grow up, there is something about the world that has taught me education is not everything.
So, yes, education is very important. Especially looking at the increasingly competitive society nowadays, certificates have become a must to secure a job. Of course, it may not apply if you set-up your own business. But I don't think I have it in me to take that risk, and I've always loved routine and security. So, applying for a corporate job is almost definite and I need to back that possibility by earning, at least, undergraduate diploma.
Not only is it a necessity to secure a job, but education also shapes you as a person. Education does not manufacture geniuses, but it at least delivers people who would have some semblance of critical thinking. Yes, science is not for everyone, but studying it develops our logic.
On that note, some people are naturally brighter and critical than others regardless of education. Though I can be considered book smart, I do think I'm not much in other areas (?) Don't know whether this is my low self-esteem talking or it's just the harsh truth ._.
Also, education does not guarantee success. It has been repeatedly said that the most successful people are not those who scored well during school. I guess it's because those people are often those who can think out of the box and dare to take a leap of faith to the uncertain. That attitude is not something that schooling can produce.
TL, DR: Education is important but you can still succeed even without it if you have the guts and brains to try so.
PS. Finishing my thesis is giving me quite a bit of stress these days, so I'm sorry if I can't give a better representation of my opinion on education. Maybe next time I'll update this particular entry when I see the need to clarify further!
