After experiencing a rough 6-hour flight to Japan, my greed of seeing the world decreased a lot. Sure, if I have the means to do it, travelling the world still sounds very good. But if I have to choose only one place, there is certainly one in mind.
Both my parents say they're Hakka Chinese but almost no one in our family speak Chinese nor the Hakka dialect. The culture we know and "preserve" is already very much diluted. I'm pretty sure if any of our ancestors see our current condition, they will faint in horror.
Visiting the place where my ancestors come from would be nice. My parents said/guessed that our family came from Moiyan in China. A quick google search says that it is actually the Meixian district in current standard Chinese. Tripadvisor also said that there are quite a few places to visit in the region. The trip would not be as directionless as I first imagined it to be, we will actually have things to do (especially if we can manage to find a tour guide for the area)! By doing this, I hope that I can understand our roots better and perhaps even find out the reason behind some of our underlying characters.
Given my family's current situation, this dream may not come true that soon. However, I sure do hope that we can go there together someday. And hopefully, at least one of us would have some survival Chinese language skills by then :')
