Day 17: How has my school life been throughout the years?

Throughout my more or less 20 years(!) of schooling, including pre-school, I've faced a lot of ups and downs. And in today's post, I shall tell you about the wonderful years of schooling.

I was not the brightest in pre-school. One of the most embarrassing memories from that time was that I just could not remember my seat. Then, it would cause some kind of unrest in the whole class because I took someone else's seat. The most fun part was the water play day! The teachers would take out some plastic pools and fill them with water. Everyone in the class would then be allowed to play with each other. It was the best! One of my favourite "event" was also the day when they gave us government-issued vitamin A. It tasted weirdly good for me. Would definitely take that vitamin again if I can buy it! Also, mom would usually buy me Yakult, or Calpico, after school sometimes. It was gr9. Can't remember a lot more from this period, but I'm pretty sure pre-school would be lots of fun.

Kindergarten was also lots of fun! I was a lot braver too back then. Made friends easily and perform dances just fine. Lessons were fun, as it should be. I always looked forward to art and craft time because then I would have something to bring home. After school, my friends and I would gather at someone's house and watch TV shows together. Teletubbies and Tweenies were our favourites! During my kindergarten days, I would also look forward to celebration events. The school would always call this puppeteer to tell us bible stories and values. Loved that a lot!

Primary school was probably the time I shined the brightest. I joined lots of academic competitions and won quite a few of them. I was also blessed with the opportunity to join the first-ever student exchange the school foundation organised. Even with that, I still had the time to have fun with friends and perform at school on various occasions. Through all of these experiences in school, I made a lot of good friends. Many have changed and gone different ways, it would be great to see them again someday for a reunion. (Also, can you believe that my so-called "love-life" was more interesting in primary school than now -.-)

Junior high was the time I finally got into the world of social media and had my first cellphone! Oh, it was a very interesting time. There are friends who I befriended on Facebook first before actually talking in the classroom. There I also had a group of good friends I would go out with and do assignments together. In 7th grade, we even joined the school's singing competition for Indonesia's independence day and unexpectedly won something! In 8th grade, my class did a Domo-kun 3D feature. It was fun making it together. If I'm not mistaken, almost a quarter of the class was involved in that one project. Fun times, indeed! There were many more interesting things that happened in the two years I was there. I did not shine that bright, but every moment there was splendid.

Then, a completely new chapter of my life started. Girls' school happened. It was definitely a new experience! Everyone was nice and caring. But the unfamiliarity of the situation, separation from family and the sudden increase in academic rigour were something that hindered me from completely enjoying the 2 years there. Of course, there were fun and crazy moments there but the hardship was the main feature that I just can't forget. Special mention to CPS and our crazy seniors, because of you, these 2 years were bearable.

After that, JC happened. That was arguably the most challenging period of my life, but I also had the best times there! Had lots of new friends, joined the house council and also became an orientation group leader. The academic burden was higher, but the fun experiences were also the best. Oh, how I want to go back to that time! (This might be the shortest paragraph, but no words can accurately describe what I felt at that time)

Of course, happiness doesn't last forever. I didn't get into my dream university and major. For a while, I wallowed over how my life has come to be. It was rather pathetic. But now that I've come to terms with it, everything is more than fine as a university student. Reunited with lots of friends and met lots of new friends too! The experiences are also uniquely Indonesia(?). There are still times when I want to go back to Singapore, but this is also definitely not bad! My time here has allowed me to reconnect and realise the importance of keeping contact with old friends. So, I guess everything that happened has a purpose. I just hope that after university, everything will still be "good" despite the challenges.
