I honestly don't read as many books as I'd like. I delved too deep in the world of fanfiction that I leave the book world. Having said that, out of those that I've read there are a few that leave a lasting impression!
Bahasa Indonesia: Notasi - Morra Quatro
It is a novel about youth who lived around the tumultuous period of the May 1998 riot. I remember I cried reading it the first time. The novel was a beautiful blend of friendship, romance and activism. Ah, this also reminds me to re-read it when I go home.
A close second for novels in Bahasa Indonesia is "Forgiven" by the same author!
English: Like the Flowing River - Paulo Coelho
It is not a novel. The book is a compilation of short stories/prose(?). What I liked about it was that the proses made me think more about life. It was also very easy to digest (The easiest Paulo Coelho's book I've ever read!). I think it is friendly for all ages and worth to re-read. At different points in life, the prose will evoke a different kind of thoughts :)
Korean: Blonote - Tablo
Given that this is my first ever Korean book, it is definitely a good one. It is a book full of quotes, so it is perfect for a language learner like me! Many times, the quotes make me think more about the subject it is talking about because it gives a fresh take on common things we all face in life. I guess Tablo achieved his objective, making the book "the start of thoughts and end of worries". An English version is also available, but I feel like it gives a slightly different nuance from the Korean one.
Honourable mention: The Chrysalis - John Wyndham
This was the book we read in preparation for Elective Literature O-levels back in 2012-2013. Read it so many times, analysed it so many times I still remember a lot of things from that book. It was a difficult read for me, but after reading it so many times, it was not that bad. Also, this was the book that taught me classics are not boring. So, give it a try if you have the opportunity!
