Day 12: My definition of love

This is an interesting topic. No one would have a completely identical definition of love, but that's the charm of it.

Young children would probably say that love is when a friend gives up their favourite candy for them. It is when their parents kiss their boo-boo away. It is also when someone is willing to share toys with them.

The bible says love is patient and kind. It is not irritable and resentful. It is what allows us to hope and endures all things.

Mainstream media would say that love is when your heart beats a little faster a certain someone. It is when that someone holds your hand in the bitter coldness of winter. It is also when that certain someone can't escape your thoughts.

They are all true in their own ways. So, what is love, really?

It is difficult to say, it is an abstract feeling after all. There is non-romantic love. Friendship and familial relationship are beautiful examples of it. I have been blessed with wonderful people around me, those who I love and love me back. There is also romantic love, shared between spouses and special friends (you know, when people officially get rid of the space between boy/girl and friend).  I had a few crushes here and there but I have not had the opportunity to experience such love.

Anyways, "Love" is a four-letter word, yes, but it is also more than that. It transcends through generations, even when the time changes many things, it stays constant. There must be a reason how it could be unchanging even after so many aeons of existence. For me, no matter what type it is, it is about not giving up even when the times are hard. It's about communicating and coming into a common ground. It's an effort and does not come easy. Love... is making it work.
