I don't know how it happens, but the theme of the importance of remembering recurs in the last 3 movies/drama.
Goblin shows Eun Tak's desperation to remember Kim Shin, from his tall stature to his sad smile. Kimi no Nawa shows the inability to remember makes the main characters feel they are missing a huge part in their lives. And lastly in Beauty Inside (a Korean movie), the female protagonist shared about her struggle, remembering the events but never getting to remember the face of his loved ones.
Our brains are wired in such a way that we can relate faces and names to events, to our feelings about them. That is why a glimpse of that precious person, just a mention of his or her name may send flutters in our hearts. What makes the above mentioned productions heart-wrenching is the fact that they simply can't do just that due to various circumstances.
Memory is one fascinating thing. Those of our loved ones surely is a blessing, but those recounting bad events may be not. It is also revisited many times in Goblin that memory can both be a blessing and a curse, the non-existence of memory can also both be a blessing and a curse. But no matter what, memories are so precious they become the stake the "divinity" plays around with when people take gambles in their lives.
Having said that, being able to live a normal life and remember fond memories from the past has to be one of the things that I should be grateful about. Being able to find and read my old diary entries should be a great reassurance that it's true I'm growing up and made friends along the way.
