The Book of Us: Negentropy - Chaos Swallowed up in Love

Hi, long time no see!

As we all know, the thing-that-must-not-be-named has been affecting our lives for more than a year. The prolonged limited contact with people and work make my mind go to places when I'm listening to songs. Since Day6 recently released the last instalment of "The Book of Us" series, I feel like it's a good occassion to share the scenarios my mind came up with at the first few listens. This is an uncoventional review, but I hope this is enough to celebrate Day6 music (especially since it will be a while until we can get another full group release)! Give them a listen too and see whether you can get the same vibes from these songs :)

1. everyday we fight

The vibe of this song somewhat fits a story about brotherhood/friendship. To dramaticize, there should be a scene when both main characters are black and blue from fighting each other. But in the end, they are laughing at/with each other, probably thinking about the silly reason they fought in the first place. The closest example of this is the relationship between Ouyang Feifan and Hsu Taiyu from the Taiwanese movie "Our Times".

2. You make Me

I don't know why but this song brings me to Infinite's MV for "Back" even though the feelings of both songs are totally different. It is also super different from this song's actual MV. But yes, if I am to make my own MV for this song, it will be about saving a friend from some kind of kidnapping or what not. Maybe also put in some sprinkling of the good old times when everything was simpler.

3. Healer

"Healer" is a very uplifting and happy song. That much I can say. With this song, I immediately get an image of a drive along the coast with friends. This also gives a picture of friends with outstretched hands for another left behind or one who fell down in the midst of running together. I like to imagine them running towards their dream together, because it is not easy and having friends along is definitely better than struggling alone :)

4. 둘도 아닌 하나 (Only)

Ah, this one warms my heart. This song's image in my head also evolves the most.

For whatever reason, first, it reminds me of the ending scene of "유열의 움악앨범 (Tune in for Love)" where Kim Go Eun's character ran all the way to avoid losing Jung Hae In's character again.

Then, I think that insurance companies will definitely like the chorus for their advertisements. The song is just so... warm and convey the feeling of having a precious one in your life. And isn't that what insurance trying to sell? Protections for your loved ones.

I also feel like, should this song have an MV, it will have a similar vibe with Paul Kim's "Me After You" MV.

5. 구름 위에서 (above the clouds)

Most of my friends know my affinity for sad songs. So before I even completely digest the lyrics, the melody itself called to me. And when I read the lyrics, it pulled me along spirals of thoughts but that's probably story for another time.

For short, I feel like this aptly describes the feeling when Hsu Taiyu let go of his guilt from the death of Ah Yuan. Again, this is a reference to "Our Times". But I'm pretty sure there are certainly many other scenarios that can better fit the lyrics, especially because many can relate.

6. 무적 (ONE)

ONE is a definite OST material! This will fit a drama/movie about collegiate sports team and the adversities thay face. Someone please make an edit with clips from "Skate into Love" or perhaps even "The King's Avatar". 'nuff said.

7. 우리 앞으로 더 사랑하자 (so let's love)

This song just screams "유열의 움악앨범 (Tune in for Love)". I definitely wouldn't mind if this song is slipped into the movie. This song beautifully wraps all the unintentional hurt, missed opportunities, and yet desire to love in the movie. I love this song for that. One of the clips that can be used for the MV material would be the one where Jung Hae In's character attempts to chase Kim Go Eun's car quite a distance by running (!).

Overall:
Maybe this is just my mind playing with me because I know this is the conclusion of "The Book of Us", but I feel like all of these songs have some sort of finality to them. As OST, they are best put as an OST to end the movie/series. Nevertheless,  Also, just because they fit being an ending theme, that doesn't mean they are lesser quality. They are definitely nice and can make people feel some types of way.

That is all from me, I hope you enjoy this short read and also the new songs! :)
