The dreaded day has finally come, a member of my favorite band withdraws from the group. This comes as a surprise, a horrible surprise at that. Day6 is super new and has only released 1 mini album, who would've thought that a petty scandal will lead to this?
I first heard of the scandal around a month ago, it was rumored that Junhyeok is/was dating a Day6 fan, a Wonpil fan in particular because he treated her especially nice during fanmeets or something like that. After that, came the silence from the whole group. All their SNS accounts were inactive except for that one time when Sungjin and Jae promoted a concert (?). All of them still do perform on radios though. So, I thought they were just taking some time to cool down from the scandal and perhaps prepare for a comeback.
But I thought wrong. Last night, just before I went to bed, my Korean friend broke the news to me. Junhyeok left Day6. I chose not to believe it yet. Nonetheless, the news is finally published on all Korean news sites that I follow on Twitter. Not only did he leave the group, his contract with JYPE is also terminated.
This is so sudden and somewhat unexpected. I mean dating scandals are always around and they are usually resolved by the company releasing statements and what not. JYPE kept its silence and announced his departure out of the blue. Is the 3 years dating ban that strict? Perhaps even so strict that they even terminate one of the agency's jewels?
Day6 fans all over the world is mourning. Day6 won't ever be the same without Junhyeok. Will they be Day5 after this? Who will sing Junhyeok's part after this? He has his own style and it means that we are missing a huge part in the group. If fans are feeling this way, then how about the rest of the members? They are somewhat family for spending so much time with each other. There'll be no more Imnaldo, no more hyung to call 피리미리, and no more of our crybaby.
I wonder why the groups that I extremely like at one point in time are falling apart : One Direction, EXO and now Day6. One thing is certain, the pain of Junhyeok leaving is not as painful as when the 3 EXO members left. At least, there's no painful pointless lawsuits in his case. And at least I have seen him live with Day6, live, once. I wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't go to the fanmeet last December because it was my only chance to see OT6 live.
Time will pass and heal our wounded hearts. But one thing for sure, Junhyeok's presence in Day6 will be missed. And wherever he is headed to next, I hope it will be the actual best place for him to finally make his parents proud.
Lastly, this is a song that I feel best describe our situation now.
Junhyeok, you will be missed.
May the odd be ever in your favour.
