Actually, I've been thinking about this topic for quite a long time. This topic has been bugging my mind for almost a year. I've tried to put my thoughts into words but nothing came out before :| However, now I can project it through words already so I think that this is just the right time for me to regurgitate my little contemplation :)
Change.
It's a simple word with big impact. Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher, once touched on this subject. He said, "There is nothing permanent but change". This is true no matter how we want to prove that it's wrong, change is simply inevitable. Mount Everest grows 6.1 cm each year even if we are oblivious to the change. Rivers meanders through time even if it takes a very long time for us to realize it. Children and teenagers grow up without them realizing it. The sun that shines everyday is actually also changing all the time although we cannot observe that change with our naked eyes.

The path that we take in life will also change over time. Sometimes it can be smooth or rocky. Sometimes you need to turn left or right when you find a dead end. If this changes does not occur, our life will be very monotonous and we can be 'bored to death'. True? As for me, I will definitely say it does change. When I was only an innocent kindergarten student, I always thought that I would finish my education in Indonesia, then I would get a decent job, find a boyfriend, and happily married. This is a simple train of thoughts of the old naive me. This kind of thinking doesn't exist in me anymore. I've changed. Here I am now, in Singapore, trying to finish my education with flying colors. Besides that, my old friends has succeeded in going on and finding new friends. My path of life has changed. And all I can do now is to accept it and face it.
If change is something very normal in our lives, why do people seem to be so reluctant to step out of their so-called 'comfort zone', to change their condition? The answer is simple. People are just scared, afraid to face unexpected possibilities that may emerge. People are sometimes also hesitant about changing or exposing something new from them because they are afraid that everyone else will not accept them as they don't 'stick to the status quo'. This phenomenon has been portrayed in some movies before. One of it is High School Musical.
This video has actually shown that those who 'dare to be different' from their fellows are discouraged from 'messing with the flow' and taught to 'stick to the status quo'. This doesn't apply only in movies, it's real, it's happening even as I'm typing this article.
So, how can we face changes in our life? Human is social creature who depends on other individual to survive. Thus, the most important thing to do is to find friends who can support you. Another thing is to 'live like we're dying'. We will never know what will happen next, we will never know when we will die. So, we need to enjoy every second to the fullest, even the times when things change in our life. Just think that those changes are the spices in your life. Lastly, see the positive side of the changes. At one point in time, that certain change can be your turning point and lead you to a better life :D
